Our Vision
At Booker Hill, we provide a safe, happy and stimulating environment where every child can thrive. Through high quality teaching, purposeful play and carefully planned experiences, children develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for future learning.
What is the EYFS?
The Early Years Foundation Stage covers children's learning and development from birth to the end of Reception. In our Nursery and Reception, children learn through a balance of adult-led activities and child-initiated play, helping them to explore, create, collaborate and become independent learners.
Areas of Learning
The EYFS curriculum is organised into seven areas of learning:
Prime Areas
These are the foundations for all future learning:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development: building confidence, independence and positive relationships.
- Communication and Language: developing speaking, listening and understanding skills.
- Physical Development: improving coordination, control and healthy development.
Specific Areas
These build on the prime areas and develop key knowledge and skills:
- Literacy: fostering a love of reading, storytelling and early writing.
- Mathematics: developing number sense, pattern recognition and mathematical language through practical experiences.
- Understanding the World: exploring people, places, nature and technology.
- Expressive Arts and Design: encouraging creativity through art, music, dance, role play and design.
Reading in Reception
Reading is at the heart of our curriculum. Children enjoy stories, songs and rhymes every day and are supported in developing early reading skills. Once settled, children take home reading books regularly, and parents are invited to attend a workshop explaining our approach to reading.
